Bettina Pittaluga, a Franco-Uruguayan photographer, specializes in capturing intimate and emotive life moments through her lens. Her early interest in photography emerged at age 14 when she began taking pictures of friends and family. After training as a photojournalist, she pursued academic excellence, earning a master’s degree in sociology at the Sorbonne and another at the Center for Applied Literary and Scientific Studies (CELSA). Sociology became a revelation for her, providing a structured way to explore her questions and contextualize her interests.

Bettina’s photography, which emphasizes authenticity, revolves around people and their stories. She primarily works with film in medium format and often handles her photo printing. Collaborating with Diamantino Quintas when necessary, she emphasizes the importance of mastering the technical aspects, such as chemistry and temperature control, to accurately depict skin tones and lighting conditions. Her commitment to film photography is rooted in her need for a tangible, hands-on creative process that involves meticulous attention to detail.

Her photography style is a sensory, instinctive exploration of reality. Bettina uses her art to give voice to those often overlooked by mainstream media. Themes of love, tenderness, and kindness are central to her work, reflecting her ongoing battle against injustice, violence, and hatred. Her images serve as powerful visual statements that embody her convictions and commitment to change.

In addition to her projects, she collaborates as a freelance photographer with notable publications, including M Le Monde, Die Zeit Magazine, Wall Street Journal Magazine, and The New Yorker.
